Welcome to “The Adventures of Thomas”
Thomas is a special needs kid with an undiagnosed genetic disorder. While Thomas is an excellent communicator, he is unable to speak or sign and has limited results with communication devices. This being the case, most of the content here is provided by Mom – translating what Thomas is saying to the best of her capabilities.
Thomas is an 11 year old child who is considered moderately to severely developmentally disabled. He has dysmorphic facial features and has seizures on rare occasions. For more information on Tom’s medical health issues and such, go check out Tom’s Medical Info page.
Tom actually does communicate well, but it takes many years of living with him to ‘get’ what he is trying to say. We aren’t teaching language to Tom. In this case, Tom is teaching his communication to everyone else. Thomas has major blocks in his ability to share data, but he understands far more than is obvious with his interactions with most people.
And, translation-wise and all else, well, Tom’s Mum and family really are ridiculously normal. OK, maybe not as individuals, but when taken as a whole, I suspect we are a great deal like your own family.
This is a site where honest issues are brought up about parenting and how raising kids can be impacted by adding a special-needs kid to the mix. Pictures of the family, info on family dynamics, and straight-up medical data about one family member who happens to have medical issues lacking a diagnosis can all be found here. If you want to hear from Tom himself, take a gander at his YouTube channel. If, however, you want to learn more about Thomas than can be said in gesture, expression, and a winning smile – you are in the right place.
If you have any questions or comments, or just want to make a shout-out to good ole’ Tom, please feel free to contact Thomas here (Tom’s Mum can be reached here as well).
